We're excited to have brought an electric bus to the island for trial on our network. The Metrodecker EV double decker bus is on loan from manufacturer Optare.
We'll be trialling the bus over a six week period on our main network to asses its suitability for the island.
Kevin Hart, Director of LibertyBus, explains the purpose of the trial.
“It’s important to do a full trial of this bus to be sure it is right for the island and for our service. Whilst it’s on the road we’ll be monitoring passenger loadings, punctuality, reliability and charging and run times. We’ll gather feedback from drivers on how it handles the Jersey roads and from our customers about the experience on-board.”
This is an exciting step forward and one that is welcomed by Deputy Kevin Lewis, Minister for Infrastructure.
“I have been keen for us to trial electric buses in Jersey and I’m delighted that LibertyBus is now making this happen. This supports our sustainable transport aims and also the Government’s ambition to become carbon neutral by 2030. We will be working closely with LibertyBus monitoring the results of the trial”.
The electric bus will be on display at the Weighbridge on Wednesday 28 August between 11:00 and 14:00 before starting its trial on the Route 15. The public are invited to come and see the bus whilst its at the Weighbridge and give us their feedback if they travel on-board.
